Broderie Anglaise (or “English embroidery”) is a whitework technique that incorporates cutwork and needle lace. It became associated with England due to its widespread use in the 19th century. Typical stitches include ‘eyelets’ round or oval holes and ‘cutwork’ areas cut out of the fabric then bound with buttonhole or wrapped bar stitches.
